Troubleshooting gas dryer defects and repairs
Gas dryers use natural gas or propane as a heat source. You will find that gas dryers are a bit more expensive to buy, $ 50 to $ 150 more than similar electric models, but they are more cost-effective. However, like any other device, there may be problems and need to be repaired.
While many states require a qualified technician for any type of gas line repair, there are repairs you can do yourself that will save service contact.
How to convert natural gas dryer to liquid propane
Gas dryers from the manufacturer are ready to be installed with natural gas. However, in some areas only liquid propane gas is available. Can a dryer still be used?
Install a conversion kit
Natural gas dryer fittings can be easily converted to LP (liquid propane) with a conversion kit.
The kit comes with instructions, but note: this is not just a quick connector change. You have to open the dryer and do the conversion on the gas burner. To install gas appliances, always check the building regulations in your community. You may need a licensed technician. Contact your local company for more information and safety requirements.
If you need a dryer repair manual , you can find it here and gas conversion kits can be found online.
The timer does not work in the LG gas dryer
The LG dryer timer does not work properly, causing the 30-minute cycle to stop after twelve to fifteen minutes. Can the timer be reset or repaired?
Replace the timer
The timer is faulty. There is no way to “reset” the timer and it must be replaced.
What is proper ventilation of gas dryer exhaust?
External ventilation will be difficult for a new gas dryer. Can it be given to an unconditional attic space?
Neither gas nor electric dryers should be ventilated indoors as their exhaust moisture can cause mold and mildew to grow. Gas dryers must be installed properly and proper dryer ventilation systems must be used to prevent house fires.
Choose a non-ventilated clothes dryer
If proper ventilation of a dryer is difficult or impossible, consider purchasing an airless dryer .
The GE dryer does not work in every cycle
My GE dryer has four adjustment cycles but only works on three cycles. Does not run on cotton mode.
Because the GE dryer heats up properly in three cycles of four cycles, the thermostat or gas valve is likely to malfunction. Cotton is the hottest condition, so this failure indicates a problem for each cycle ahead.
Test the thermostat
Test the thermostat with a voltmeter. If it is not registered properly, it must be replaced.
Check gas valves
If the valves do not open properly, it may cause the temperature to fluctuate. You will probably need an authorized technician to test the valves and perform any repairs.
Amana gas dryer burner problem
The igniter on the Amana gas dryer lights up but the burner does not.
Several things can cause this problem: thermal fuse dryer, bad windings on the throttle valve, or clogged valve. To determine the cause, start with a valve test, as it is easy and there are no parts to replace.
Test the ventilation system
Disconnect the dryer from the power supply. Turn off the gas at the gas supply line. For this purpose there must be a shut-off valve on the supply pipe. After doing this, pull out the device so that you can access the back of it. Be careful not to damage the gas line or ventilation system. Then remove the valve from the dryer and dry the clothes once.
If the same problem does not occur, the ventilation system is limited.
Clean the ventilation system
If the dryer was working properly and the ventilation valve was disconnected, cleaning and sanitizing the ventilation system is required. Do not forget to check the outer ventilation door of the hood. The flapper must be able to move freely. To clean the ventilation system, if an accordion-like tube is used, you will most likely need to remove it. Replace it with a new, safer metal tube.
If the ventilation system is a metal pipe, it may be necessary to separate it in sections to access it and clean it.
Check the thermal fuse and burner coil
If cleaning the ventilation system does not solve the problem, check the thermal fuse. If it looks dark, replace it (cheap cut).
Check burner coils
Finally, check that the burner coils are working properly and replace them if necessary.
Diagnostic codes for kitchen assisted gas dryers
The kitchen assist dryer does not work properly and it is difficult to accurately diagnose the problem.
Before starting any type of repair, running a diagnostic program will help determine where to start and what repair parts may be needed.
Here are the error codes for kitchen assist gas dryers with definitions that first show the fault code, the error code description, and finally a possible solution:
PF (Power Outage) : PF flashes to indicate that a power outage occurred while the dryer was operating. Press start to continue the cycle or press pause / cancel to clear the screen.
E1 (Open Temperature Sensor) : E1 flashes on the numeric display when the temperature sensor circuit is open. If the temperature sensor is defective, replace it.
E2 (Temperature sensor shortened) : E2 flashes on the numeric display to shorten the temperature sensor circuit. If the temperature sensor is defective, replace it.
E3 (blower rotation failure) : If the blower rotation speed decreases below 500 rpm during a cycle, all outputs are switched off and error code E3 is displayed.
E4 (glass rotation failure) : If during a cycle the glass rotation speed decreases to 0, all outputs are turned off and error code E4 is displayed.
E5 (Dry Rack Sensor) : If the signal is lost during the Dry Rack cycle, all outputs are turned off and E5 is displayed.
E6 (Exhaust limit defect) : If the exhaust temperature exceeds 87.7 ° C (190 ° F), all outputs will be switched off and E6 will be displayed.
